This week’s Campus Celeb is AXiD sister Ann Clawges. Not only is she super active in her own chapter, she’s also involved elsewhere on campus and has strong bonds with friends in all different organizations! Now let’s meet Ann…

What organizations are you involved in on campus and what positions do you hold in them?
I am the Membership Vice President, Ritual Chair and All Greek Council Representative of Alpha Xi Delta and I am the treasurer of the Ski and Snowboard Club. I also work as a scorekeeper for intramurals.

Why did you join AXiD?
I actually joined for the study hours, surprisingly. I had gone through a really tough semester and I realized that I needed people to push me to be the best I could be. And as a bonus, I got one of the most supportive groups of friends I have ever had in my life.

What are your responsibilities as Membership VP, Ritual Chair and AGC Rep?
As the MVP, I am in charge of recruitment for AXiD. I plan all of the events and organize all of our recruitment in the fall and spring. As Ritual Chair, my job is to make sure that rituals are done correctly and that they are organized. As AGC Rep, I attend meetings on Tuesdays and report AXiD information to Greek life, and general greek life information back to AXiD.

What’s your favorite part of being in Greek life?
Being in Greek life is almost like having a second family away from home. I feel like when you come to college, you start to miss having a solid group of people who will always have your back; and when you join Greek life, you have that group of people again.

Why should people get involved in Greek life?
People should get involved in Greek life because it is a life changing experience that you will never ever forget. Not only do you spend time getting to know your sisters or brothers and building strong relationships with them, you also grow and accomplish a lot. I know in AXiD, we have won charity queen at homecoming 14 years (last 2 for Autism Speaks) in a row; and there is nothing better than standing at a fundraiser and a mother thanks you for what you are doing because her son has autism. Being in Greek life is being able to experience those moments and knowing that your sisters are just as touched by the mother with her autistic child as you are. And it’s knowing that even though all the different Greek organizations are competing during homecoming, Greek Week and other events, we are still a solid 2% of Millersville’s campus that will all support one another at the end of the day.

What’s your favorite thing about Millersville?
I love the people that go to this school, not just Greek life. Everyone is so friendly and it’s a great environment to be in.

Do you have any advice for younger students?
Don’t knock it til you’ve tried it. There are so many different groups of people on this campus, so forget about what the stereotypes say and give anything and everything a chance.
