This past weekend, my friends and I traveled to New York City on a bus trip planned by our University Activities Board! It was such a long and exhausting day, but the views, company, and food made the trip worth it. Here are a few things that we did with our day!

Got coffee / breakfast

The first thing I needed when we stepped off of the bus was a cup of coffee! Being an avid New York go-er, I have my favorite spots! We walked to Gregory’s Coffee where I got the absolute best vanilla oat milk latte. After Gregory’s, we turned the corner and got the famous rainbow bagels from Liberty Bagel. This hole-in-the wall bagel shop is known for their wide variety of bagels and flavored cream cheese spreads. We all chose a rainbow bagel with thick birthday cake cream cheese.

Walked Through Soho

We had time to kill before our reservation at out next stop, so we decided to walk some stores in SoHo! It was so hard not to buy something in every store we visited. I made it through the whole day without shopping, which is very impressive for me. All of the stores in New York City are extremely tempting.

The Museum of ice cream

This was by far one of my favorite things I have ever done in NYC! This isn’t your typical museum by any means! There are 10-15 different ice cream inspired rooms in this building with 4 different stops to enjoy free ice cream. Each room had different interactive doors and picture opportunities. My favorites were a pool filled with fake sprinkles and a yellow room with hanging bananas. The pictures and the delicious ice cream were unmatched.

the 9/11 memorial

The 9/11 memorial is something I have seen a few times, but it is always worth seeing again. We opted out of doing the museum and just enjoyed visiting the pools that are placed where the Twin Towers used to stand. It is always very moving to walk around the pools and read the names on the plaques. If you’ve never been to the memorial or museum, I can’t recommend it enough!

Lunch at sticky’s

The name of this shop, Sticky’s Finger Joint, was not appealing at all, but the food surprised us! This was an accidental find that we walked past when we got off the subway and decided we were all hungry. The menu mainly consisted of different meals that were based around chicken. I am not usually one of THOSE people, but I did indeed get a chicken finger basket with fries. We sat and ate while it rained, then headed for our next stop. Moral of the story here: the best food in NYC comes from the little hole-in-the wall places with weird names.

The harry potter store

I just recently started watching Harry Potter (go Gryffindor!!) so when my friends suggested the Harry Potter store, we all knew we HAD to go! This store was intense, to say the least! You could buy wands, books, Butterbeer, clothes, and little gifts that were all featured throughout the movies! Being a new fan, I wasn’t sure of what everything was, but it was a perfect last stop on our day trip!

We ended our busy day with coffee and a walk through Times Square and Broadway. The bus ride home was long and quiet, but the trip was so fun. New York City is one of those places that I can’t get enough of. I am so happy I was able to go with my besties and enjoy a day with them in my all time favorite place. Until the next adventure!!
