Single and Ready to Treat Yourself

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami chapter.

Valentine’s Day. It’s simultaneously the most hated and most loved holiday of the year. To some, it’s a day to be extra sappy with “bae,” and to others, it’s a day to be reminded how single they are and how much they hate pink. If you fall into the latter category, don’t mope around wishing someone would ask you out on a date. Use Valentine’s Day as a day to treat yourself (which should happen every day) or hangout with your best friends. The question is how you should treat yourself.

1. Buy yourself a box of chocolates and some flowers. It might seem embarrassing, but go for it.
2. Buy a bottle of wine and watch some Netflix. There’s nothing better than watching “Friends” with a nice wine buzz. You won’t even remember it’s Valentine’s Day.
3. Stay away from social media, especially if you’re spending time by yourself. It’s easy to torture yourself and be envious of your friends on dates, so try to stay off Instagram throughout the day.
4. If you have friends that are also single, go out with them. There’s nothing better than hating on your love life with your best friends. Have a wine and onesie movie night or go to a bar. Either way, you’re bound to have a great time.
5. Ask out your crush. If he’s single and you guys have been making sly eye contact in stats, make the first move instead of waiting for him to ask. What’s the worst that could happen? He says no? Okay, that sucks but at least you went for it and can move on to crushing on someone else.
6. If none of those things are for you, just pretend it’s any other day and don’t let all the red and pink phase you.

No matter what you decide to do, don’t be a Valentine’s Day grinch and ruin it for other people. No one wants to see you complaining on twitter about how stupid the holiday is while they’re getting ready for their date. Make the best out of it, and look at the brightside: all the chocolate that’s going to be on sale the next day.
