Open Letter to all the Girls who went Through Rush

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami chapter.

While all the freshmen were picking out cute off-the-shoulder rompers and nervously texting their Rho Gammas, the sororities girls were hard at work on the other side.

To the nervous girls: so many girls going through rush tell me how nervous they are. I’d venture to say about 60% of my conversations on the first day were centered around this feeling. I wish I could tell you this at the time, but I felt the same way. We’re all anxious to meet you. You girls are our future sisters, future littles and our future executive board. We want to make an amazing first impression on you, just like you did on us.

To the tired girls: by the end of the day, we get some girls who seem like they just ran a marathon. You think you’ve had a long day? I had to be in the suite by 8:30 a.m. and I’m talking to people for at least 12 to 14 hours a day. I understand that you’re exhausted. Recruitment is exhausting, but try to make conversation with me, please! We’ve only got to speak for 15 more minutes!

To the girl who had been crying: recruitment is extremely tough. Sometimes it can be overwhelming, and sometimes you feel judged because you’re presenting yourself to so many people. Sometimes you get dropped from your top choice, and it can be heartbreaking. Don’t worry about it. I know it’s a cliché, but you really do end up where you belong. For some girls, they choose their sorority, and they love it. But for other girls, their sorority chooses them, and they end up loving it just as much. Reputation is for four years. Sisterhood is for a lifetime.

To my rush crushes who didn’t join my sorority: sometimes you fall in love with girls who don’t end up joining. I’m really happy you found where you belong. I loved you during recruitment because I thought you were a really cool person. I hope we can be friends!

To our new members: you’re perfect. You’re adorable. You’re amazing. You’re everything my sorority hoped for.

Welcome home!
