What To Do After The Finals Craze

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

So this is the part where you’re finished with finals and you’re at home relaxing.  However, the days pass by and now you have no idea what to do with your time since you’re not cramming for exams, you’re not rushing to study sessions or making any last-minute adjustments to projects a minute before the deadline.  Here are some initial brainstorming topics to evaluate for yourself.

Focus on your wants and needs:

Think about something that makes you genuinely excited for you.  You should think about things, people, or different aspects of your life that make you happy.  What helps me figure out my next steps in evaluating what will inspire me, what is something that will affect my future in a positive way, what’s a healthy approach to be more productive, and what is something that makes me my better self now and in the future?

Here’s a list of things that I like to do during my winter break:

  1. Volunteer (I love giving back especially during the holiday season to different organizations and events)

  2. Take classes for your degree or something that interests you (I’m taking two online classes and a photography workshop to keep myself busy!)

  3. Spend quality time with friends and family

  4. Workout or take a group class (I recommend pilates or hot yoga)

  5. Try something new to do (I am planning to learn how to knit)

  6. Read the book you’ve been dying to catch up on

  7. Netflix Marathon

  8. Baking/Cooking new recipes (Delish has some sick recipes; I recommend looking up the veggie pasta recipes because they’re really good!)

  9. Visit new places in your area or travel somewhere cool

  10. Shopping spree

  11. Catch up on some zzz’s

  12. Plan a trip

  13. Apply for jobs or internships

  14. Practice on something you want to improve on (I’m practicing for interviews)

  15. Spa Day

  16. Explore favorite hobbies

  17. Reflect on your triumphs, setbacks, and overall growth (I recommend writing this down in a journal.  I would also be jotting down along with the main points of how those things created lessons, growth, and your next steps to improve)

  18. Spread positivity (leave compliment notes at coffee shops or cheer someone up if they’re feeling down)

  19. Go to the movies

  20. Visit a museum (My favorite is the wnder museum!)
