The Weeknd Releases “My Dear Melancholy”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid inspired? Duh! Here’s why.

As many of you are aware, The Weeknd finally released new music (!!) Some old vibes resurfaced; he definitely gave the people what they wanted. It has been a while since his widely popular 2016 album Starboy came out. Fans were waiting for magic, and he delivered just that.

My Dear Melancholy had an honest and dark mood. It’s not difficult to take an educated guess and assume this set of songs is centered around his ex’s Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid.

For instance,

Call Out My Name

“I almost cut a piece of myself for your life”

“Guess I was another pit stop, ‘til you made up your mind”

This is obviously referring to the kidney transplant Selena Gomez had to endure.

. . . annnd also how she ran back to Justin Bieber after the break up.

Wasted Times

“Wasted times I spent with someone else, she wasn’t even half of you”

“You were equestrian so ride it like a champion”

Bella Hadid literally trained for the 2016 equestrian Olympics. Fun fact.

I Was Never There

“Now I know what love is, and I know it ain’t you for sure”

Ouch. @SelenaGomez

Hurt You

“Now I know relationship’s my enemy”

“You try to fill the void with every man you meet”

Honey, @SelenaGomez, you tore this man UP.

Privilege

“We said our last goodbyes, so let’s just try and end it with a smile”

We love you, Abel. Selena made a big mistake in my opinion. Zero shame for throwin’ shade.

I lowkey want to thank Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid for impacting The Weeknd on such an intense and emotional level that made him produce such beautiful tunes. But most importantly, I’m so sorry @The Weeknd. Your fans ADORE you. Keep that lovely head up. There are plenty of gals that would love a chance with you ;)
