Things You Know to Be True If You Have a Younger Sister

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

Having a younger sister has been one of the most challenging things in my life. I love her to death, but she drives me crazy. And, it seems that all of us with younger sisters go through many of the same maddening things.

1. She always steals your clothes

When I was in high school my sister very rarely took my clothes without asking because she knew how mad I would get. But now that I’m at college, I swear she raids my closet everyday to add to her outfit. Oh, and can’t forget to mention how she ALWAYS steals my shoes.

2. She always makes a mess and then you have to clean it up

My sister and I have shared a bathroom my whole life. She is apparently incapable of keeping it clean, so somehow I’m the one who gets stuck cleaning it. Real nice.

3. You become a chauffeur

As soon as I got my license I turned into a literal chauffeur for my sister. I drove her to dance, to school, to her friend’s house, everywhere. I rarely was thanked and was often expected to take her wherever she wanted whenever she wanted (nice try).

4. If you tell her to do something, she does the opposite

My sister did not like to hear any of the wonderful wisdom I had for her when we were growing up. If I suggested something, she would do the opposite. If I told her I knew what I was talking about, she would tell me I’m wrong and do it her own way.

5. Despite everything that drives you crazy, you love her anyway

Once my sister and I finally stopped fighting, we realized we actually have a lot of fun together. Being away at school has actually made me miss her, and I’m always so excited for the next time I’ll get to see her. She drives me insane, but I’m so grateful to have her there for me no matter what, and I know my life would be much less exciting without her.

Just another college girl with a love for writing, coffee, and adventures.
