Straight Coachillin’: Celeb Trends At This Year’s Valley Music & Arts Festival

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival kicked off its stylish festivities the weekend of April 11th and continued through the weekend of April 18th this year.

As always, the fashion and trends worn by the celebrities and the crowd were amazing. Coachella is definitely the place to let your hippie/bohemian style come out while listening to great music!

There were some trends at Coachella this year that are easy to incorporate into your everyday style, especially with summer right around the corner!

Some styles I loved included:

FLOWER HEADBANDS– This trend has been on the rise throughout college campuses and I’m obsessed! The Coachella crowd this year wore a variety of colorful flower headbands that gave off a pretty, bohemian vibe. These headbands are easy to make too! One of my favorites was Poppy Delevingne’s bright pink flower crown, a bright pop of color against her neutral outfit.

FLOPPY HATS– These hats were HUGE at Coachella! I’m so happy these are in style because they look great on everyone and are an easy accessory to complete an outfit. These hats will be a great way to block the sun this summer while looking fashionable! Vanessa Hudgens is a great inspiration for this trend; her hat at Coachella was fabulous!

FUNKY SUNGLASSES– This year Coachella had people wearing an assortment of sunglasses. My favorites were the different mirrored glasses worn by Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid. These colorful, reflective sunglasses are a great way to add an edgy touch to a neutral outfit, plus they come in all shapes and sizes that fit everyone’s facial structure. I’m definitely going to invest in a pair to wear with bathing suits on the beach this summer!

HEADSCARVES– These will be perfect to wear this summer when it gets too hot and humid outside, but you still want to look cute and fashionable. Headscarves look great with any hairstyle. Try this accessory with a fun fishtail braid for a night out this spring and summer. Headscarves are a great way to play with colors and patterns since they aren’t too overwhelming. I love how Kendall Jenner paired hers with a simple outfit at Coachella this year. For more inspiration, Nicole Richie is the master of the headscarf.

BRAIDED HAIRSTYLES– This hairstyle is an easy way to freshen up your normal hair routine, plus they are easy to create! Braids are always a huge hit at Coachella, but this year braided headbands were all the rage. Pinterest and Youtube have countless tutorials on how to create the perfect braided accent to your hairstyle. A simple way to try out this trend is to make a simple braid back into a bun. Nicky Hilton had a great version of this hairstyle at Coachella this year.

Gwen Stefani’s hair- another hairstyle that caught my attention was Gwen Stefani’s double bun when she performed with Pharrell. This look is a little more daring, but a fun way to upgrade the classic bun! Stefani made it look chic with a swipe of red lipstick and bangs parted to one side. This hairstyle would look great with a casual outfit or romper for the warmer weather this summer!

NAILS- One of the biggest (or smallest) trends this year at Coachella was the different type of nail art designs. These small, intricate images seemed to be on everyone’s fingertips. A simple way to try this nail trend is to use different bright colors on each finger. If you want to step it up a notch, try little images or designs (an Aztec print looks amazing) on top of a solid color like Alessandra Ambrosio’s Coachella inspired nails.
