Every girl has been there. You’re hanging with your guy friends (or your crush!) when all of a sudden the conversation takes a turn for the obscure: they start talking about sports. If your gut reaction is to start picking split ends and zone out while the boys are really getting into it, this is for you.
Knowing a few key facts about sports is the easiest way to impress any guy, and you could totally win points with your crush.
Last month the NBA officially ended their 5-month lockout and started regular season games. After a labor contract dispute between the players and the owners, the start of regular season had been postponed from November 1st to December 25th. This means that any guy who watches basketball was super eager for the season to begin, and they’ll be really excited when the topic comes up. If you really want to dazzle the guys and show off that you have more than just beauty, there are a few key things you need to know about the 2011-2012 season.
Lamar Odom DOES NOT play for the Los Angeles Lakers anymore
The only thing most girls know about the NBA comes from watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians or the spin-off, Khloe & Lamar. But if you want to impress the boys, make sure you don’t make the tragic mistake of asking how Lam-Lam and the Lakers are doing. Odom was involved in a trade at the beginning of the season, which moved him to the Dallas Mavericks (the team that won the Championship last year). Unlike Kim’s ex Kris Humphries, who was recently voted the NBA’s “Most Disliked Player,” Lamar is a very well respected and strong player.
Lebron James still plays for the Miami Heat, and people still aren’t happy about it
You may remember the summer of 2010 when the sports world was rocked by Lebron James’s “decision” to abandon his hometown team (the Cleveland Cavaliers) and join the Miami Heat. Backed by superstars Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, Lebron and the Heat begin the season as front-runners to win the Championship, despite their disappointing finish last year. Since Lebron’s quest for his first (championship) ring in Miami left the Cavaliers in ruins, you can still find a great conversation with a guy if you bring up Lebron and how you think he’s a “sellout.”
The Dallas Mavericks won the Championship last season
The Dallas Mavericks sealed the deal last season with their first championship since the franchise was started in 1980. This season, the Mavericks, led by Dirk Nowitzki (pronounced No-vit-ski), have another all-star line up (including Lamar Odom!), and a strong chance at a repeat title.
So who are the best teams this year?
This year, the teams to look out for include: Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Oklahoma City Thunder, LA Lakers, LA Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, and you can’t leave out the Boston Celtics.
Okay ladies, hopefully now you won’t feel so in the dark the next time the NBA comes up around the men in your life. By reciting a few simple facts from this article, you will certainly impress your friends and possibly seal the deal with your prospective man!
