Reasons to Dress for Success… Even to Class

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

I know what you’re thinking… it is Monday morning and the last thing you want to do is get out of bed. Or maybe its Friday and you had one too many last night.

However, I seriously recommend wearing a cute outfit if you can get yourself to not just throw on leggings and a sweatshirt. I like to live by the saying “dress the way you want to be addressed”. So, like the young professionals we are, we should dress for the part.

What I am trying to say is that you never know who you might see on a college campus. Between professors, other students, alumni and beyond, you are basically drowning in a sea of networking opportunities. Anyone you see on any given day could be a potential employer or co-worker.

On the other hand, you should not dress well just for others. Do it for yourself. Whenever I have a cute outfit on, I always feel more confident walking out the door. I think it is scientifically proven… but if not my personal experience supports that when I look better, I feel better, and I then I do better. One day when I was dressed for an interview, I got better grades on my quiz and test that day than I had before in those classes.

Ultimately, I am not saying if you wear a blazer every day, you will get your dream job and be a billionaire. I am also not NOT saying that. Basically, just know a little effort can go a long way.
