This past summer, I had a lot of downtime, so I decided to attempt projects inspired by Pinterest for my new apartment. Normally, whenever I tried recipes from my ridiculous food board, my cakes would burn, I didn’t add enough butter, or I totally bombed the entire recipe. Yes, I followed the directions. But maybe not so well. However, when I tried these artsy projects, I actually loved the outcome!

Yarn Letters

The first craft consisted of a large wooden W, and an eclectic shade of green yarn. I picked up both of these items from Michael’s for roughly $5. It took me maybe 15 minutes tops to wrap the yarn around the entire letter. I hung it up around my desk and it added a nice pop of color amongst my picture frames! I didn’t add flowers like the picture from Pinterest (on the right), but I still am proud of my rendition.

Hole Punch Patterns

The main material for another Pinterest project I completed consisted of a large piece of canvas that I actually had under my bed for months. It was collecting dust from lack of use, so I found this craft on my Artsy Things board. What you do is either paint the canvas or leave it white, and use a hole puncher (you can get different shaped hole punchers at Michael’s, but I used a circle hole puncher) to punch holes in different patterned/colored pieces of scrapbook paper, and you use modge podge (can be bought at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby) to glue the pieces on the canvas. I painted an inspirational quote on mine- and below is how it turned out, compared to the Pinterest canvas!Â
