Monday was the first Monday in May and if you’re even slightly tuned in to pop culture, you know what that means it was also the Met Gala. Every year, the gala is held as a fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute. It is also an opportunity for the world’s biggest celebrities to showcase their most fashion-forward looks. This year, the theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” No, people were not wearing hiking boots and camo. The event was based on Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay Notes on “Camp.” For everyone who hasn’t read Sontag’s essay, the theme is basically to be as gaudy and flashy as possible.
