Listen up PNMs! This is your first chance to make a real impression on the women of Greek life, but equally as important, this is their first chance to make an impression on you. So grab some girls in your residence hall and head on over to Central Quad, it’s time for some girl flirting!

When going into sprite dates, and even going through formal recruitment, know that both sides of women are equally as nervous and anxious to make a good impression. From what to wear to what to talk about, every lady involved will put in her best effort to ensure a successful sprite date experience.

With that in mind, here are five helpful tips to remember as you approach sprite dates this month:

1. Keep an open mind.It is perfectly normal to have a few sororities in mind that you are especially interested in going into sprite date season, but remember to keep an open mind to all of the sororities participating in formal recruitment. You may be pleasantly surprised after leaving a sprite date that you didn’t think you would be interested in, so give each sorority an equal shot in winning you over before you mentally check them off of your list.

2. Look around.Take a look at the suite, the types of women and the slideshow at each sprite date. If you feel at home and are excited to spend time there, it may be a good match for you! You might even end up in the same pledge class of some of the girls around you. This is your only opportunity to casually hang out with the active members, so take advantage of it!

3. Have a Bite. Each sorority’s sprite date will have a theme and will most likely have a yummy treat that correlates with it, so don’t be shy. Grab a bite. Also, remember you’re in college, so free food doesn’t come easy. If anything, you could compliment their treat as a segway into a conversation with a girl you haven’t talked to yet. Remember, the active members put thought and money into their food choice; they want you to enjoy it!

4. Ask Questions! The active members in each sorority are prepared to ask you questions to try and get you to feel welcomed into their suite. If you want to stand out, try to ask some questions of your own. It always helps to be remembered for showing interest. Don’t hesitate to ask questions about their philanthropy or what types of sisterhoods their sorority has done in the past. Obviously steer clear of asking questions like, “what frats do you guys hang out with?” or, “how many socials do you have each month?” (Insert monkey emoji with hands over eyes.)

5. Wear something that expresses who you are.Don’t stress too much about your outfit and absolutely don’t feel pressured to dress a certain way to impress a sorority. Dress casual-cute, but add your own spin. Make them remember you for YOU, not for what you’re wearing. Also, it may be a good idea to wear something light because it often gets hot in those jam-packed suites.

Most importantly, remember to trust the system and know that in February you will end up in the sorority that is the best fit for you. So enjoy these sprite dates. They are meant to be casual and easygoing. Relax, smile and remember to have a great time!
