How to Stay Sustainable in College

Earth Days was a couple of days ago, but the fight to save our planet from pollution does stop there. We have so much work to do, but if we all make little changes to our daily routines we can make a big difference. So consider these options to help our Earth out a little :)

1. Use reusable bags at the grocery store

Plastic bags are not biodegradable and are one of the leading causes of pollution on our planet. By taking a reusable bag with you to Kroger you are making a bigger difference than you think.

2. Use a reusable cup at Starbucks

I am like most of you and can drink an iced coffee no matter the temperature. However, the number of straws and plastic cups that come with purchasing iced coffees adds up. Getting a reusable cup and straw at Starbucks is easy and you get a discount for using one!

3. Buy clothes at thrift stores

Sustainable clothing shopping is an easy and fun way of changing our habits to help our earth. Fast fashion is something that most people do not think of when living sustainably, but fast fashion clothing ends up in our landfills. We are all constantly shopping online, but have you ever heard of an app called Depop? It's basically thrifting but through an app. You can find any clothing item you are looking for and it's way cheaper. There's also Valley Thrift in Hamilton that always has some good finds.

4. Dedicate at least one day a week to eating no meat

There are so many vegetarian options on campus that limiting yourself to at least one day a week with no meat is an easy task.

5. Use a reusable water bottle

Buying a plastic water bottle from the vending machine is a waste of money and hurts our environment. There are so many water stations and fountains on campus that there is no excuse to not use a reusable water bottle.
