Homecoming Royalty: Alyssa Bove & Damien Watson

Alyssa Bove and Damien Watson are your 2014 Homecoming Queen and King! Voted by their peers, the dynamic duo will forever reign as Miami royalty. Her Campus caught up with them to ask about everything from their personal definition of “Love & Honor” to what they plan to do with the crown.

First, meet Alyssa Bove …

Her Campus featured Alyssa Bove this year as a campus celebrity for her jewelry design business, Trending Above. But she’s just so awesome, she found her way back onto our site as this year’s homecoming queen! Alyssa is a sister of Gamma Phi Beta and majoring in architecture. In the future she plans to open her own store (with the company she started at age 21). Alyssa says she was excited to have been crowned with her good friend, Damien.

Meet Damien Watson …You may know him as “the guy that takes pictures of people around Oxford,” but don’t let him fool you, by no means is he hiding behind the lens because he’s shy. Damien is extremely outgoing, and if he’s not in the architecture studio, you can usually find him Uptown wasting time with his friends. With an internship in Germany with Audi under his belt, he’s on his way to becoming a successful architectural designer. And for Damien, this is his second crown – he was also named homecoming king in high school!

I backpacked throughout Europe for a month after my summer internship with Audi in Germany. What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends? Waste the weekend away with sleeping late, getting brunch uptown, hanging out with friends, bar hopping and getting late night food.

Her Campus: What does ‘Love & Honor” mean to you? Alyssa Bove: “Love & Honor” at Miami: I love the memories I have made and honor the friendships and education from Miami. Damien Watson: “Love & Honor” represents student pride for, and support of Miami University and the entire community. It is a symbol of appreciation for the place we call home, the friends that we have made, and the experiences that we have had at Miami. ‘Love & Honor’ is more than a slogan, it is a part of all us as members of this great institution. It is an eternal  statement of commitment and respect.

HC: What’s your favorite thing about Miami? AB: Work Hard Play Hard mentality. I love how dedicated everyone is, yet everyone also knows how to have fun.DW: The people (students and faculty) challenge me to work harder and to strive for something bigger everyday.

HC: What was your reaction when you heard your name announced as the winner? AB: I was shocked, I was excited. I heard Damien’s name first which I was excited for him because there is no one more deserving than Damien!DW: I was overwhelmed with a sense of happiness and awe when my name and Alyssa’s name was called.

HC: What was your favorite part of homecoming week? AB: I enjoyed sharing the experience with Damien Watson. It was exciting that we both won together to share it with a good friend. DW: I really enjoyed the events that were happening all over campus on homecoming week, especially Redfest in the Armstrong Student Center. I also enjoyed interacting with a lot of the alumni that came back to campus for homecoming.

HC: Why was participating on homecoming court important to you? AB: I was nominated by Gamma Phi, so it was important to me to represent Gamma Phi during homecoming week!DW: Participating on homecoming court was important to me because I was able to spread school spirit by rallying my friends to come out to various homecoming events.

HC: Would you recommend others in the future to run for court, and why? DW: I would highly recommend others to run for court in the future because you can build a sense of community amongst your friends and the entire Miami University community.

HC: Do you win any special prizes for winning? AB: Not that I know of … DW: I have not won any special prizes from winning that I know of yet.

HC: What do you plan to do with your crown? AB: I put my crown on my dresser next to all of my jewels and jewelry. DW: I plan to wear my crown in the cold of winter to keep my head nice and toasty.
