HC Abroad: The Spanish Bro vs. The American Bro

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

Her Campus contributing writer Paige Powell has taken her studies this semester to Seville, Spain. She shares her experience abroad with us, from advice on navigating a foreign city to European fashion and food. Whether you’re also abroad or looking to do so in the near future, check out what Paige has to say each month for a little dose of what it’s like to explore way beyond the OxBox borders.

One of the first things I noticed about young Spanish men is the way they act, compared to the good ole’ American dudes.

Here are three things men in Spain do that most girls can agree is just oh so lovely:

1. They dress nice ALL the time. Imagine the typical clothes a Miami University guy would wear wear but 10x better. They are extremely trendy and most of them have are attractively tan. Sorry Miami boys, but the Spaniard men here might have one-upped you.

2. The way people greet each other is quite intimate, if you would ask any American. Men and women of all ages greet one another by kissing each other on the cheek, left then right. I always find myself remembering last minute (left then right) as a Spanish guy or girl approaches my face.

3. The Spaniard men are not only very friendly, sociable and kind to others, but also to each other. As friends, they love each other and boy, do they show it. Whenever they say hello or goodbye, almost every time they give each other a big hug, the traditional kisses on the cheek and maybe even one on the head. Simply put, it’s a bromance.

Spaniards are very affectionate to not only their partners, but also to friends and family. All in all, Spaniards are not afraid to show their love for friends and family. It’s just another part of everyday life. Lesson of the day: show the love people, show the love.
