Get Your Cheese Fix On

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

Some people want to marry it. Some people want to bathe in it. It comes in many forms: American, Swiss, cheddar, gorgonzola, ricotta and more. It doesn’t matter if you cover it with bread, throw it on pasta or eat it right out of the bag – we all love our cheese. Cheese can turn an average day into an amazing day. The good news is now we don’t have to feel guilty when we end our night with a box of Bruno’s or Will’s, because according to Glamour.com cheese is actually good for you!

New studies by Monash University’s Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine show that eating more cheese can reduce body fat, increase life expectancy and lower your body mass index (BMI). Researchers were also surprised to find that men who ate up to seven servings of dairy a week, reduced their blood pressure, lowered their BMI and were less likely to have type 2 diabetes or become obese.

So don’t feel like you have to immediately hit the rec when you have too much Spicy Mac at La Bodega. With cheese mixed into a healthy diet, you’ll be on your way to achieving that spring break bod you’ve been working so hard for (SB2K15 is only months away, by the way).

To feed those cheese addictions, Her Campus found some places Uptown where you can get your cheese fix on:

New American Classic: The Mac ‘N’ Cheese Grilled CheeseNothing gets more American than all time classics mac ‘n’ cheese and grilled cheese. Patterson’s Café has answered all cheese lover’s prayers and combined both favorites. Just look under their “Died and Gone to Grilled Cheese Heaven,” tab on their menu, and you’ll find dozens of different types of grilled cheeses to order from. Their most popular is the grilled cheese stuffed with mac ‘n’ cheese inside, though.

If you are still in the mood for some more mac ‘n’ cheese, walk on over to Mac & Joe’s after a night out for Oxford’s notorious mac ‘n’ cheese bites. Nothing tastes better circa 2:00 a.m. after you leave (ok, stumble out) of CJ’s.

Cheesy DipsWhat goes better with chips and queso than a Margarita? Only more queso dip of course – it’s that delicious. Fiesta Charra and La Piñata make their famous white-natural queso dip to go with their unlimited supply of tortilla chips. And on Tuesday’s La Piñata offers 99 cent margaritas with chips and queso too, incase you do need something to wash it down.

45 East makes their famous Big Dipper appetizer that just might satisfy your craving for the week. Ha! Just kidding, we’ll have one-a-day. The bar and grill mixes fresh muenster and feta cheeses with spinach and garlic, melted and served with warm pitas. It’s a great dish to share with the table, or yourself when it’s a rough Monday.

Cheese comes naturally to Oxford’s own Quarter Barrel Brewery and Pub. From their delicious flatbread Lavosh to our favorite cheese dip in Oxford. Their baked brie comes warm and fresh out of the oven served with apples, almonds and a baguette, and covered with green harvest honey … yeah we’ll take two orders of that, please!

Doughby’s Takes The (Cheese) CakeGiving cheese dip a run for its money is an all cheese calzone wrapped in fresh soft dough from Doughby’s. Doughby’s offers more than 50 calzones! Want to add a little more to your cheese? Try a Teacher’s Pet with steak and mushrooms or a Beach Body with broccoli and garlic. Take it from a cheese lover, everyone has to order a calzone once in their lifetime so you might as well start now. You won’t be disappointed.
