Christmas Came Early: Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Recap

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

In case you missed the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on December 10th aired on CBS, HC has thrown together a recap of all the action that went down on the glittery catwalk for you, collegiettes!

The beginning of the show kicked off with the theme “British Invasion” led by a drum line and Fall Out Boy. FOB started with their popular song “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark.” Candice Swanepoel began the much anticipated annual show rocking the dazzling 10 million-dollar fantasy bra. This section featured the gorgeous angels dressed all in British themed clothing and wings. Some highlights from this section included Taylor Swift’s appearance with Fall Out Boy in a head to toe British flag outfit, Karlie Kloss in colorful psychedelic clothes and wings, and Lily Aldridge, who closed out the section in a punk-rock plaid outfit with eye-catching spiky wings!

In between each section, one-on-one interviews were conducted with the popular models of 2013 including Lily Aldridge, Lindsay Ellingson, Doutzen Kroes, Candice Swanepoel, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Karlie Kloss, Cara Delevingne, and Behati Prinsloo. These interviews gave fans an inside glimpse at these select models’ past history with the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, their annual holiday commercial in Paris, their fitness routine for getting in tip-top shape for the show, and also how they utilize their social media accounts as an effective marketing tool to promote their careers.

The second section of the themed show, “Shipwrecked,” featured A Great Big World on a grand piano singing their hit “Say Something.”  Doutzen Kroes started this section off by strutting her stuff in an all white ensemble with flowing ripped white wings. The models in this section had distressed, pale colored clothing that looked very ethereal, complimenting the slow song playing. A few top looks from this portion included Behati Prinsloo’s white and shiny clothing that flowed behind her, Karlie Kloss’ wrapped outfit with wings that resembled driftwood, Lindsay Ellingson’s pink corset and yellow gown, and Alessandra Ambrosio’s shimmering outfit that mirrored flowing water.

The third part of the show was called “Parisian Nights.” It starred Adriana Lima in an all red sexy number with feathery wings shaped into a heart. The models strutted to Miley Cyrus’ new song “FU.” Doutzen Kroes followed with a large blue and black feathery boa that she twisted around and played with while walking down the runway. This section had a plethora of sparkle, fringe, feathers and sexy lingerie. Some of my favorite pieces were Alessandra Ambrosio’s HUGE twisted black wings, Cara Delevingne’s black dress and wire wings with yellow gloves, and Erin Heatherton’s black corseted outfit dripping in sparkly fringe.

“Birds of Paradise” rounded out the fourth section of the show with the models dressed in outfits resembling extremely colorful, exotic birds. All of the clothing had huge feathers in every color imaginable. Fall Out Boy performed, “The Phoenix,” while the girls walked out in their stunning pieces. A few feathery frocks that I found most visually striking were Lais Ribeiro’s yellow and blue-feathered sleeves, Erin Heatherton’s all pink-feathered gown, and Izabel Goulart’s purple and pink wings coupled with purple and gold lingerie. This was definitely one of my favorite sections for its creatively colorful vibe!

The fifth part of the show, “Pink Network,” was its usual fun, youthful section focusing on social media and playful emoji-themed clothes. British girl band, Neon Jungle, sang their hit “Trouble.” The craziest outfit by far was Elsa Hosk’s. She wore a large smiley face on her back with a silver sparkly jacket. The clothes from this electric section included pom-pom thigh length socks, playful wings, light up smiley faces and amazing jackets and underwear. This section is always upbeat and made me want to dance.

The last section, “Snow Angels,” started with Taylor Swift in a bedazzled silver dress singing the extremely catchy song, “I Knew You Were Trouble.” Behati Prinsloo kicked off this section with large, snow-white fluffy wings. Karlie Kloss followed in a sheer sparkly fringe jumpsuit alongside Lindsay Ellingson’s snowflake inspired outfit and Lily Aldridge’s white corset and fluffy snowflake wings. This last part of the show was unforgettably sparkly and white, which got me excited for the holiday season!

If you want to drool over the entire show or check out some behind-the-scenes videos and pictures, head to the Victoria’s Secret All Access webpage. Victoria’s Secret pulled off another fantastic show, and we are already counting down the days until the 2014 debut!
