Meet Katelyn Bethel, a junior marketing major, sister of Kappa Phi, member of Cru and sports marketing intern. She’s that super friendly girl on campus with great hair and just the right amount of spunk. Behind those bright blue eyes of hers lies a passion for helping others, and a positive, hard-working attitude that we at Her Campus can’t help but admire. Keep reading to learn more about this HC cutie!
Her Campus: What are your career aspirations?
Katelyn Bethel: My dream is to work in the marketing department for the “Happiest Place on Earth” (Disney World)! I currently don’t know exactly what aspect of marketing I want to do there, but I’m most interested in the parks, resorts, and ESPN fields.
HC: I hear you’re in a sports marketing internship. Can you tell me a little bit more about your involvement with that?
KB: Yeah it’s a lot of work but I absolutely love it. Basically I’m currently working for the football team and women’s volleyball team. After volleyball is done I will be switched to basketball, and in the spring I will work either for baseball or softball. As an intern, I help create advertisements and graphics to be posted on social media or on posters hung around campus. We do a lot of research and planning for the games. We also do in game promotions for the teams we work for. The most fun I’ve had so far was working promotions for a football game, because I got to help choose contestants for the promotions we were doing. As well as I got to shoot out the smoke as the team was entering the field, which was honestly the best part.
HC: What do you love most about being a member of Kappa Phi?
KB: The sisterhood aspect is my favorite, I love that I can call up any of my sisters at any time and they will encourage me, pray for me, and help me through whatever is going on.
HC: What has been one of your favorite experiences at Miami so far?
KB: In early November of my freshman year I went to this Cru event called Freshman Retreat. And it was at that time in the freezing cold, sleeping on triple-bunked beds, that I became best friends with my now housemates. I’ll never forget that night when we were all standing by the bonfire eating s’mores. I think that was the first time since being at Miami that I actually had a real conversation with people.
HC: What is your ideal date?
KB: A date at Hueston Woods—especially in the fall—would be so wonderful. I’d love to go hiking with a guy, then go on a boat and watch the sunset while eating chocolate covered strawberries.
HC: What do you like to do in your spare time?
KB: I love to run (especially trail running) and work out. I also enjoy watching Netflix.
HC: What is your favorite song of the moment?
KB: Currently I love to listen to Stitches by Shawn Mendes or Downtown by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
HC: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
KB: I really just want to go to Disney World right now. I’m doing a Disney World Marketing j-term trip this upcoming January, and I honestly can’t wait and just want to leave right now.
