The Best Sunday Night Routine: How to Rock This Upcoming Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

The Sunday Night Blues. We’ve all been there: No motivation, running on empty, and wondering how the heck you’re gonna make it through the week. When this happens, we just gotta get up, brush it off and get going. It’s that easy, right?

Wrong.

We all know it’s not that simple. What are you supposed to start with? What happens if you don’t get everything done? And what about that pile of dirty clothes you’ve not washed for three weeks?

Well, have no fear. In this article I’m going to share 10 easy tips to help you be the boss babe you are and get ready to rock this upcoming week.

Start with a plan.

First things first- plan it out. It is really easy to do nothing when you don’t know what needs to be accomplished. Get out some paper and write it all down. Start with the most important; if that essay needs to be turned in at 11:59, put it at the top. The dirty laundry can wait until tomorrow if need be.

Start working.

Get done what absolutely needs to be done before you go to sleep. These are those items that were at the top of your list. When you’ve finished an item, cross it off, check mark it, scribble over it. Anything that makes you feel accomplished.

Take some time for yourself.

Now that you’ve gotten your priorities done, it’s time to take a breather. Do a face mask, watch an episode of your favorite TV show or play some music. This is time to decompress from your work and get ready for your next task.

Get your chores done.

It sucks, I know, but that pile of stinky dishes that keeps growing isn’t going to clean itself. Wipe down your desk, get the laundry going, fill your wash your dishes and if there’s time, do a quick sweep. When you’re done you’ll rest easy you’re going to sleep with a clean room.

Get ahead.

Now’s the time to glance back at that list. Let’s start checking off some of those boxes. Again, start with the most important first. We want to minimize the amount of work that needs to be done later in the week as there will more than likely be assignments added to our workload this week. It doesn’t have to be a lot. One or two elements of a project or a few paragraphs of an essay is good.

Put the work away and focus on yourself.

It’s important to take care of yourself. Do a face mask and take a hot shower. Even if you usually take showers in the morning, just wash your body and change into some fresh, clean clothes. Brush your teeth, wash your face and make hot chocolate or tea to relax your mind.

Disconnect.

Tie up loose ends, say your goodnights and prepare to put the internet away for the night. Set your alarm, plug in your phone and click it shut. Keep it face down if you have to. It’s important to let your eyes and mind rest before going to bed.

Plan.

Pull out your agenda and to do list. I suggest making a weekly to-do list and keeping it on your desk, then putting events and new assignments in your agenda book. Make your plan for the week. Note times you want to study, work on assignments and exercise. It’s much easier to get things done when you have a schedule. Set out your outfit for tomorrow and pack your bag; Monday mornings are never pleasant when you’re in a rush.

Get an attitude of gratitude.

Find a notebook, journal or piece of scrap paper. Write down 3 things you’re grateful for and 3 things that made you happy in the past week. Finish with three things you’re looking forward to this week.

Get some shut-eye.

Turn off your lights, snuggle into bed and get ready to catch some Z’s. Resist the urge to check your phone or watch TV, it’ll only prevent you from falling asleep.

This Sunday night routine leaves me relaxed and ready to crush my upcoming week. I know what I have to do and when I have to do it, so the guessing and stressing of the week is minimized. I wake up Monday morning ready to kill it!
