Google says no. I also say no. While there is a very thin line between bloggers and journalists, there still is a line. Though bloggers do write about current events (i.e. fashion trends, fashion shows, etc.) their writings are opinion based. And what’s the supposed golden rule of journalism? Get the facts. Notice, facts do not include opinions. Herein lies the key difference that separates fashion bloggers from journalists.

While there are journalists that don’t keep their opinions out of their reporting (I’m looking at you Fox News), for the most part journalists are consciously neutral. Not many people actively look to read articles where the facts are blurred, and the point of view is alarmingly skewed. Fashion bloggers can’t be neutral. Their whole genre of writing was founded on having opinions and ideas and then sharing them with the world. An un-opinionated blogger would be about as interesting to read as a flu vaccine pamphlet.

Along the same lines, there is an inherent difference in the depth of content each produces. Journalists need hard facts, research, and time to cultivate their stories. Contrastingly, fashion bloggers write about what they see and experience from day to day. No compilation of facts, no painstaking research, just eyes and ears and a voice to bring it all together.

So if you ask me, there is a distinct difference between fashion bloggers and journalists. Not to step on any toes here, but fashion blogging is too opinion based and just not as intensive as real journalism. But this doesn’t stop me from reading my favorite blogs every morning with my coffee. There’s just something about reading about motorcycle boots vs heeled booties that really gets my day off on the right foot (pun intended).

Below are my favorite bloggers in general (fashion and non-fashion) Enjoy!
