This year, Merrimack College has opened a new Writers House, located in the back of the Athletic Building. Even though students can go to the Writing Center in the library for editing needs, The Writers House may be a better option! Every Thursday there is a meeting to attend and workshop your writing with your peers. Anyone is welcome to the house to create all types of writing (or art). The Writers House is a great way to get feedback, which is very important when writing. Many great authors, like Mary Shelley and Lord Byron, read and edited each other’s work as well. This facility isn’t just available to you on Thursdays, it is open every weekday. There is plenty of quite space for you to work and share.Â
The Writers House also hosts many events. Poets and authors like Jamaal May and Gail Caldwell have come to read and talk about their work. Students can expect many more workshops and opportunities at the Writers House. On November 21st, there was a coffee house where students were encouraged to read their writing, present artwork, or sing.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Monday, November 25th at 3:45 PM. The Writers House will hold an event called “Seven Stories of Service”, where seven students tell stories of their experiences with community service. The most important part of The Writers House is that everyone is encouraged to come and create.
