After hearing from Jackie Reyneke, founder of Power Forward, a mindset coach, and Princeton Basketball Champion, I realized that’s not all what she is. These are all examples of roles that can be out on a resume and marketed towards others. All roles that others see the most, leading to the most pressure. But these she has so much more meaningful roles than those, that are just as important.Â
As a student trying to build the perfect resume for future marketing agencies to read, attaining relevant roles are important. Like Jackie, when she was a college student, these roles put a lot of stress on me. People are relying on me, I have to make sure everything works right, but not everything is as perfect as it may seem. This is a commonality college students across the world are facing.
With Jackie’s talk she reminded me of the importance of the mindset you choose to go in with all these roles. In the marketing world, there will be so many instances where I will have to revert from project to project to meet deadlines that are constantly changing. Sometimes one thing may go wrong that can affect my mood and everyone else’s. Just like how when your mom gets home from work and did not have a good day: she’s probably in a bad mood and that makes the whole house unhappy. And that never feels good. The world isn’t over when one thing goes wrong
Going into things with the mindset that everything will work out, looking forward to something good, and like Taylor Swift said “living for the hope of it all” is something that I have been working on since high school. It’s never easy because of all the different types of work that has come my way, but people like Jackie remind me to stay on task.Â
March has so many highs and so many lows, and I’m not just talking about the temperature. It’s a month that we have so much to look forward to, like summer where stresses and worries are brought at ease with more time outside with family and friends. But it all feels so far away because there is still so much more to happen. One thing I’ve learned from these mindset tools is to not just always find something to look forward to, but to find good in what is present. Being grateful for what you have now is just as important for what you’ll have soon. Having the ability to control your mindset by looking on the positive side and the good in all can allow you to enjoy the moments in each of your roles in your life making it all worth it in the end.
