Sabina Shakya is one of the most involved students on the Merrimack campus, but has a tendency to keep quiet about her fame. With her tranquil and happy aroma you wouldn’t guess that Sabina takes on tasks that would make any average student overwhelmed and stressed.Sabina is a senior health science major, with minors in environmental studies and sustainability. She is originally from Kathmandu, Nepal and continues to make her mark here at Merrimack College. She is fluent in Nepali and English as well as knowing basic Hindi and Spanish.

With so much potential, Sabina does not let any of it go to waste. Sabina is part of the ALANA Club, which creates diversity awareness in the community by organizing campus wide events. For example, the club hosted a cultural talent show last spring. Along with ALANA, you can be sure to find Sabina in the writing center helping peers. In the past week, Sabina presented for an audience of 58 peer tutors and directors at the National Conference on Peer Tutoring for Writing in Chicago where she beautifully excelled.

Sabina also has donated her time at numerous volunteer sites. From volunteering in Nepal at an Educational Resource Development Center to a family health care center girls group, soup kitchen along with a math and science partnership in Lawrence. Sabina has no problem lending a helping hand volunteering at the famously known Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. When Sabina isn’t trying to better the world you can find her on duty as a Senior Resident Advisor in the Deegan Halls. Whether she’s on duty or helping a fellow resident or friend, Sabina is someone you can trust. With such talent and friendliness, Sabina Shakya will be not not only be a name to be remembered here at Merrimack, but a leader to be followed.
