Is Wicked Overrated?

Everyone knows the pink and green splattered musical, Wicked. If you have never seen it, you most definitely have heard the music.

I am not a big fan of musicals in general; however, the constant brand deals and hype influenced me. The costume and set design were beautiful; they were vibrant, had amazing details, and everything fit as you’d expect.

However, the story was running on, and many scenes were unrelated to the plot. In my opinion, there wasn’t a need for a song about not wanting to study or “take life seriously.” Do not get me wrong, the vocals in the musical were phenomenal, it is just I feel as if they could have chosen different ways to act out some of these scenes more towards the plot.

Arianna did an amazing job; she was hitting the high notes and acting well after not for many years. The songs are catchy but overplayed, which I feel is a big turnoff for a lot of viewers, including myself. The musical was enjoyable for the most part and was better than what I expected it to be.

Granted, I have never read or seen the original, so I really did not know what to expect, but I got lost in parts of this musical. I had seen multiple interviews, and the way some actors were portraying themselves also put me off wanting to watch it.

Do I think it is overrated? Yes, I do, but I see how this is many people’s favorite musical, and how they can love it.
