After enduring weather changes that kept everyone guessing, the sun finally decided to appear and it looks like it is here to stay. After a lot of snow in the New England Area, students are beginning to spend time outside and enjoy the sun while it lasts. Here are some ideas for fun activities to do outside:

Start a softball, ultimate frisbee, or soccer game:

Athletic or not, engaging in an outdoor sport can not only be good for your health, but also a fun way to celebrate the end of winter! You and your friends can finally be outside for longer than five minutes without freezing. Not only will you be sneaking in some exercise, you’ll be having fun.

Have a barbeque:

Round up everyone you know from your floor or your group of friends. Have each person put a few dollars in, put on someone’s iPod, and have an outdoor barbeque. It’s a fun way to celebrate the new weather.

Have a picnic:

If barbequing is not your forte, grab a blanket and have a picnic with some friends. Everyone can bring their own food and drinks or certain people can bring designated items.

Go for a walk:

Need a study break before finals? Now is the perfect time to go for a walk outside. Ask a friend to go with you so that you have some company to walk around campus. If you’re a fan of photography, bring your camera and see what cool nature moments you may find. Many have raved about getting photos of Merrimack’s beautiful sunsets on walks to and from Sparky’s Place.

Read a book:

Grab your favorite book or that one you have been wishing you had time to start and finally begin it. Taking a few minutes to do something you enjoy will enable you to concentrate better when it comes time to hit the books again.

Play a board game:

From Apples to Apples, to card games, you or of your friends are bound to have board games lying around. Grab your favorite game and bring it outside. This will give you the chance to hang out and be outside!

Look to the sky:

Remember when you were a kid and would look for clouds shaped like various animals or flowers? If you enjoyed it then, you may still enjoy this activity now.
