While this is obviously an extreme example of brightly colored shadow, there are ways that you can add some color to your eyes without going overboard! Spring is the perfect time to play around because you can brighten up a simple look by subtly throwing in some color.  Here are a few tips for brightening up your eyes with a pop of pigment:

1.Keep Your Other Shadows Matte

Unless you’re talking about a highlight on the brow bone or inner corner, keeping the shadow a matte texture as opposed to a glittery or metallic shade, allows for the look to not look too busy.

2.Complement Neutrals with Color

If you’re going to throw in some color, its best to work with a natural base along most of your lid. Lots of color can be too overpowering and appear very 80’s (i.e. the look above).

3.Pick ONE to color

There are a few options you have as far as an area of your eye to add color to. My personal favorite is the lower lash line, you could also do the inner corner (which is the only place I would use a metallic color because its also a highlight spot), & the outer corner, which can be tricky but can be done.

4.Blank Slate

Any time you do a bold eye, you should use a pretty full coverage foundation to make a blank canvas to work with and it allows attention to only be drawn to the eyes.

5. Leave it to the Eyes

Using a lightly colored or neutral lip is the best option because it allows you to again, keep the focus on the face and ensure that your face isn’t too busy with different colors.

While you’re waiting for spring flowers to bloom bring a little color in with your eyes with these tips!
