Not in the mood to head out for St Patties’ Day? That’s alright! These ten Irish original movies are guaranteed to make you feel the Irish sprit without getting up from your comfortable couch position.

  • Boondock Saints – This movie follows a set of fraternal twins as they set out to fight back against the Russian Mob with the FBI hot on their heels. Directed by Troy Duffy this movie set in Boston is funny, quirky, but not for those with a weak heart (there is a quite a bit of violence). (photo credit)
  • Luck of the Irish – Yes this is a Disney original movie, but it is still a classic! The base of this movie follows a high school basketball player as he battles for luck to save his family from being controlled by an evil leprechaun.
  • The Wind that Shakes the Barley – Staring Cillian Murphy, this movie follows the story of two brothers who are torn apart by an Anti-British Rebellion when they are forced to choose sides. This historic war drama is not for the weak of heart or stomach.
  • Once – A modern day musical set in Dublin following an average man and an Czech immigrant woman as they write, rehearse and record music about their love story. This is a classic guy meets girl, they fall in love kind of a story making it a must watch!
  • Waiting for Dublin – Set on New Year’s Eve an American Pilot is forced to land near a remote village in Ireland and eventually falls in love with a fiery redhead girl. Yet another cute romance to snuggle up and watch with your boo.
  • Intermission – Based in Dublin, this web of love, greed, and money follows the life of five unique individuals. This dark comedy is sure to leave you gasping for breath and wiping away tears of joy.
  • The Guard – Released in 2011 this movie follows an unconventional Irish cop who is forced to assist a bad-tempered FBI agent in busting a drug-smuggling ring. (photo credit)
  • Happy Ever Afters – This comedic story begins with a bit of a mix up with two marriages in one hotel on the same day. One is arranges and the other is just plain unhappy, but don’t worry the movie will not end in tears. Nothing like a couple of screwball Irish weddings to bring out the laughter
  • 50 Dead Men Walking – Based on the real life of Martin McGartland, this story follows a young man as he makes choices that could ruin or make his life after he is recruited as a spy. Filled with action, drama, and suspense this movie is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
  • Waking Ned Devine – This quirky comedy follows a village of people through their schemes to gain the lottery winnings of a dead man. It is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud.
