A Single’s Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mercer chapter.

The “V” day. As a single woman, I know that Valentine’s Day can be overrated and not fun when all the stores like Walmart and Target have a whole isle dedicated to lovers. Well every Valentine’s Day I like to make myself feel special by pampering myself with purchasing presents, watching movies, and having a mini-makeover. I like to spruce things up so I know I am special without a significant other. So what should you do for Valentine’s Day if you are single? I have a few suggestions:

1. Make a change.
You can either go shopping to alter your wardrobe, do some kind of community service, or even play a prank on a couple (nothing too harsh). It is a day where you can change something about your normal routine of life and spice things up.

2. Treat yourself to some entertainment.
Valentine’s Day is a day when you can show couples that you can enjoy yourself, especially because you only have to pay for one. Go to the movies, a concert, a museum, or a theme park. Have fun and enjoy the day. It is a win-win situation, cheaper for your wallet and fun for your life!

3. Meet others who are passionate for what you are.
You don’t have to meet someone to date, but can hang out with people who may enjoy your same interests. Go dance or swim or play sports. Live up the day and make new friends. Who knows, maybe someone in that interest group may be the one.

4. Do things you wouldn’t be able to do if you were in a relationship.
Wear footed pajamas all day or listen to music that you love while jamming out. Or better yet do both! This is a day where you can be free and relish in that independence.

Make the day enjoyable and have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
