This week’s campus celeb Katie Williams is the definition of easygoing, even though she is massively involved in a number of organizations and activities on campus.
Always on the move, Williams is the vice president of Tri Beta, historian for MERPMED, rush week coordinator for Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, a member of Mercer Pet Rescue, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and Habitat for Humanity.
She is also actively involved in intramural sports. “In my spare time, I love playing basketball, all the time. Basketball is flipping amazing! I also like to play golf. I am always doing service projects because I am highly involved in APO, and I have a lot of fun with that. When I have time, I also like to do art,” said Williams.
This quirky senior has an undeniable passion for animals.“I want to work with animals because they are fun to be around and they are always happy. Who doesn’t like animals, right?” replied Williams.
She has pets as well. “I have a dog that is amazingly sweet and adorable, and I miss her a lot,” expressed Williams.
Currently, she is conducting research in class in a study about evolution that combines her two loves science and animals. “The research I do is pretty motivating because I really enjoy working with the mice. We basically train the mice to grasp branches and study what makes them successful,” said Williams.
She does not know her exact post-graduation plans, but she is considering a few options. “I am thinking either graduate school or veterinarian school, or possibly going back to working at the zoo,” said Williams.
Whatever path that she chooses, it is certain that it will help this celeb save the lives of animals!
