Staying Cute Through April Showers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Memphis chapter.

We all know the age-old saying, “April showers bring May flowers.” While we all appreciate the beautiful spring flowers, most of us dread all of the rainy days that come before. For some of us, rainy days almost make it impossible for us to get out of bed. Once we overcome the overwhelming urge to stay in the bed, we then have to tackle not looking like we just rolled out of the bed too. Here are a few clothing items/accessories that you can throw on to take your comfy rainy day outfit to the next level.

1.     Rain Boots

Some girls have a dislike for rain boots for various reasons, mainly because they don’t care for the style most of which most of them are made. This, however, is no longer an excuse. There are so many different styles of rain boots, so there is at least one pair for everyone (no matter how picky you are). So slip on a pair of rain boots to avoid getting your tennis shoes wet and having soggy socks.

2.     Rain Jacket

Who says that rain jackets can’t be functional and cute? Now, there is an abundance of styles of rain jackets, ranging from trench coats to your standard rain jacket. You can add levels of cuteness from your jacket alone. With all of the cute patterns and colors, there is a jacket out there for everyone.

3.     Headbands/Bows

Most of us will not wear our hair down on a rainy day. So why not add a cute headband/bow to your up-do. It can add a girly touch to a plain ponytail or messy bun. Headbands/bows are not just for little girls either; there are ways to wear them to where you won’t look like a child.

4.     Leggings

Do we really need another excuse to wear leggings? Rainy days are basically given to us solely for the purpose of getting away with wearing leggings. Why not step outside of the box and wear a fun printed pair instead of your usual black ones? It’s just another way to add some color and fun to your outfit on those dreary rainy days.

5.     Umbrellas

This definitely seems like an obvious accessory needed for rainy days (unless you don’t mind getting soaked). However, you can brighten up a dreary day with patterned umbrellas. You can also make add an umbrella that coordinates with your outfit, which adds an extra spark.

6.     Scarves

Scarves are usually forgotten when the weather warms up, but spring scarves are actually a real thing. Rainy days tend to be cooler, so adding a thin scarf can give you a little extra warmth without making you break a sweat.

Hey everyone! I am a sophomore journalism major with a concentration in public relations and a dance minor at the University of Memphis from Tupelo, Mississippi. I am a total marching band geek even though I don't play an instrument. I am in the colorguard though (the people with the flags, sabres, and rifles). I absolutely love reading, writing, drinking coffee, dancing and listening to music. Maybe not all at the same time, but trust me I've tried it a time or two. Most of my family and friends will tell you that I am one of the most random people you will ever meet. I like to think that I make their lives just a little more interesting. (Hopefully!) Journalism is something that I'm really passionate about, and I am very excited to a member of the HCMemphis team!
