One afternoon sitting in Chemistry, I looked up and saw a smile that took my breath away.

A smile that made me stop and stare.

A smile that made my world stop.

I had known her for two years and had seen her smile plenty but, up until that moment, I had never felt it.

Her eyes.

They held a mystery.

As if there was a story there that her pink lips never dared to share.

They glowed.

One squinted.

My world faded out slowly as all noise thinned to a whisper.

Then, she laughed.

And in that moment, her laugh became my new favorite sound.

Shortly after, her voice would become my second.

To quote Lucas Scott from One Tree Hill, “it was a moment of clarity”. I realized that the most beautiful things in life weren’t flowers or the sky, but instead moments. I treasured every moment spent with her– I wanted them to last a lifetime. I loved everything: her mind, laugh, smile, eyes, personality, and who she was as a person. As I learned new things, I fell even more in love. I have never met anyone as amazing and kind as her. She truly deserves the world. Even after everything we went through, I still find this to be true. For her birthday, I bought a star and named it after her. All I could ever give her was a tiny piece of what she deserves.

She was born into the wrong world, for this one isn’t good enough, but I’m thankful every day for God’s mixup. I knew what I had all along. I never lost sight of her beauty, value, and uniqueness. This girl is a work of art. Having my heartbroken by her remains a privilege I will forever be grateful for.
