Last Saturday, November 24, featured one of the most exciting and up and coming DJs in what is referred to as the “trap” music scene, Baauer. Headlining for Araabmuzik, Baauer played one killer of a set at SAT. Trap music might have been around for a few years, but it is just now beginning to truly spearhead itself in the electronic dance scene.

What makes trap music infectious is that it comes from its very interesting and familiar sound. Trap takes very hip-hop-esque drumbeats but beautifully combines them with the sort of electronic sound seen in dubstep or moombahton, or even a concoction of both. Trap satisfies those who really love a great hip-hop track, but have the urge and desire to dance.

Baauer, one of the most talented trap producers currently on the scene, played an incredibly diverse, enjoyable, and electrifying set. Churning out his own great hits such as “Harlem Shake,” “Yaow,” and “Dum Dum,” Baauer continued to surprise the crowd by throwing in remixes of popular hip-hop and rap songs such as Kanye West’s “Mercy” and Huey’s “Pop Lock and Drop.” Needless to say, some of the songs were a throwback; great songs that might have been forgetten.

If you missed the great Baauer performance and can’t wait to get your trap fix, Igloofest this year will be throwing a night of trap music featuring Tronald Trump and Montreal’s own Lunice in his project, TNGHT. If a trap show is something you haven’t yet already attended, give the new music a shot… and expect to dance!
