Rubs American BBQ recently reopened their location at 17 Rue Prince Arthur, just minutes away from my apartment in the Plateau. They have another location in Laval that is also massively popular. With a wide selection of beer, liquor, and American comfort food, it has become my, and my friends’, go-to location to catch Patriots games.

The entire management and staff is insanely friendly – they even stayed open an extra 4 hours for my roommate from Chicago to see the Cubs finally win the World Series. Plus, Rubs offers a 10% discount to McGill students, making it a no-brainer when deciding where to catch the game.

Over the course of this semester my roommates and I have tasted a lot of different dishes, but their menu is so varied we haven’t even made a dent in the options. The nachos at Rubs are the only restaurant nachos I’ve ever ordered that had the proper cheese to chip ratio, meaning there was leftover melted cheese after all of the chips were eaten.

The mac and cheese is deliciously decadent, and can be topped with different meats like pulled pork. I can also personally attest that the chicken and waffles are mouthwateringly good, served with real maple syrup and paired perfectly with one of their generous Caesar’s.

Due to the liquor license, you have to order food in order to drink at Rubs, but the side salads and appetizers make a great accompaniment to an ice cold beer if your appetite isn’t up to a perfectly smoked burger or St. Louis cut ribs.

The next time you want to watch the Habs game or your favorite NFL team, Rubs is the perfect place to drink, eat, and watch TV. However, their friendly staff and relaxed vibe isn’t too sport-centric. Drop in for some wood-fired smoked BBQ any day of the week and you won’t be disappointed.
