Changing seasons means out with the old and in with the new for clothing, accessories and nails alike. Her Campus McGill spoke with Shindale Moore, manicurist at Rouge Nail Bar, to find out about the latest trends for nails and toes. More importantly, Shindale gives the doctor’s (or aesthetician’s) orders for caring for your skin during the cold, winter months.

HC McGill: What are the popular nail art trends for right now?

SM: Right now the biggest nail trend that we are seeing at Rouge is the stiletto nail done with a coloured tip.

HC McGill: What are the three hottest colours for Fall/Winter 2013?

Shindale Moore: The three hottest colours are deep purple, gunmetal gray and dark raspberry.

Try Essie’s “Toggle the Top”, a sparkling dark raspberry.

HC McGill: Have you ever had any strange special requests for a manicure style?

SM: Personally, I have not had any special or strange requests, but some of my colleagues have. One was asked to write black and white letters on each nail to spell “WATCH DOGS” and another was asked for moustaches!

HC McGill: What polish brands do you use at Rouge and what do you love about them?

SM: Here at Rouge, we use OPI, Essie, Butter London and both lines of CND polish, Shellac and Vinylux. We love these lines for different reasons, such as color selection, ease of application and the quality of polish.

HC McGill: We’ve heard that CND Vinylux™ is all the rage. Does it really last seven days?

SM: Vinylux is the newest line of polish from CND and has been extremely popular at our salon. Our clients and staff love it because it applies well, dries fast and really lasts seven days!

HC McGill: The cooler season causes dry skin, and our feet need some extra TLC. What do you recommend to keep feet hydrated and looking their best?

SM: First, you want to start with a good pedicure. Adding an exfoliant and a paraffin treatment to your service really helps as well. Next, you need to maintain. That means creaming your feet, especially your heels, after every shower and before bed. Having a pedicure every four to six weeks is also recommended.

HC McGill:  For those that don’t care for trends, what’s your most popular color for manicures, regardless of season?

SM: By far the most popular colour all year round is red – a classic colour that goes with everything.

Make sure to head to Rouge Nail Bar on Crescent Street to pamper yourself with a mani or a pedi – a perfect treat after finishing a midterm or paper. They’re open really late on weekends, until 10pm, so you can squeeze some “me time” into your busy schedule.
