If you’re anything like me, you probably spent most of this Tuesday latched to your laptop, waiting for the Osheaga lineup to be announced. The expectations were high, given last year’s amazing artists, and as usual, Osheaga did not disappoint; this year‘s lineup is just as good, if not better. You’ve probably heard of the major artists headlining, such as Lana Del Rey, Disclosure, and Radiohead, but some lesser-known artists that deserve just as much recognition will be performing too. Here are some of the amazing artists that don’t stand out at first glance, but are still so talented that they promise an unforgettable Osheaga experience (as if you need any more reasons to go) :

The Last Shadow Puppets

The Last Shadow Puppets are an English rock super-group formed by Miles Kane (of The Rascals) and Alex Turner (of the Arctic Monkeys), and they made their debut in 2008 with their first album The Age of the Understatement. Now, after almost a decade of hiatus, they are getting ready for the release of their second album Everything You’ve Come to Expect.

Perhaps more importantly, this means that Alex Turner will be performing at Osheaga, and this. Is. Not. A. Drill. Being a huge Arctic Monkeys fan myself, this is certainly one of the performances I’m most looking forward to seeing this year.

BØRNS

Garrett Borns, better known by his stage name BØRNS, caught the attention of a certain Ms. Taylor Swift before he had a major fanbase. Taylor Swift praised his music in an Instagram post, and the rest is history. In no time, BØRNS proved he had an undeniable stage presence; he certainly knows how to stand out among today’s large flock of indie artists. He is also included in the lineup for Coachella 2016, which shows he’s definitely an artist to keep an eye on.

Silversun Pickups

I first came across Silversun Pickup’s music on the 2011 fantasy action film Sucker Punch, and I instantly fell in love. Silversun Pickups is an LA-based alternative rock band, and if you’re into alternative rock like I am, I can guarantee that you’ll love their music. Their use of distorted guitars have caused them to be compared to bands such as My Bloody Valentine and The Smashing Pumpkins. At this year’s Osheaga, you can expect to hear a couple of tunes from their latest album, Better Nature, which was released last year.

Melanie Martinez

Melanie Martinez was one of the most popular artists to come out of The Voice America in 2012. Adam Levine chose Martinez for his team after her unparalleled performance during the blind auditions, for which she covered Britney Spears’ “Toxic” in a very unique way. More recently, her song “Carousel” appeared on the television series American Horror Story: Freak Show. This 20-year-old from New York with unconventional interpretations and style is one of the names to pay special attention to at Osheaga 2016.

The Wombats

The Wombats. Need I say more? This English rock band from Liverpool has sold over a million albums worldwide. I personally think they have very Two-Door-Cinema-Club vibe to their songs, and they are known to be especially good at performing live. Their latest album Glitterbug leaked online more than a week prior to its release last year. Their second single “Greek Tragedy” was premiered as Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1.
