Spring is on its way! Yes, we may still be beleaguered by negative temperatures and way too much snow, but I know I can’t wait to break out the spring fashion trends. My personal plan for the last month and a half of semester is to gradually work in new pieces while still staying warm. We must all be sick of our Gooses! Below are the top five spring fashion trends, and how I plan on wearing them as the weather slowly turns!
Stripes: A personal favorite of mine, horizontal stripes are definitely in style this spring.  Whether nautical inspired, with navy blue and white, or just any color combination, stripes are a charming way of spicing up the old t-shirt-and-jeans routine. I like this easy fitting slub-knit style, paired with cutoff denim shorts, black tights (for the cold), lace up boots, and a slouchy knit hat.
Lace: Lace was all over the runways this sring! Maybe lace reminds you of your grandmother’s doilies, but this season’s lace is both feminine and sexy. Usually sheer, lace works as the perfect layering piece to bring your basic winter outfit to a whole new level. Pair this lacey tee with jeans, a brightly colored tank top for class, and your chunky knit scarf, then turn it around to show off your back when you hit up Blue Dog on a Monday night!
High socks: I just bought a pair in gray and I am obsessed! They are so warm and instantly turn any outfit into winter-appropriate gear. Thigh high socks are also perfect for when you want to show off those legs but don’t want to freeze on St. Laurent. Not a Montreal native, I had banished my dresses and skirts to the back of my closet, but thanks to these they are experiencing a new life. As Spring rolls around, fold them down, or incorporate sheer, lightweight styles into your wardrobe.
Military: This style is currently manifested in slouchy jackets with cargo pockets and an easy fit. It can work as the perfect transition from your down coat for March’s tricky weather. When paired with feminine pieces, like a floral print dress or a lace top, the ruggedness of the jacket makes an awesome contrast. If it is still too cold for this style, slip a hoodie underneath and you’ll be covered!
Prints: From Prada’s ridiculous banana print to Givenchy’s leopard bell bottoms, prints are a must this season. There’s no need to go overboard—keep the prints small, and you won’t receive stares.  This leopard print dress is sweet, with pleated shoulder details, but also can be dressed up for a glamorous look. Worn with a structured coat, opaque tights, sky-high heels, and some sparkly jewelry, this dress is sassy but classy enough to wear to a show at Place des Arts.
There are, of course, many more Spring fashion trends. Hopefully these styles will help you get over the winter blues and inspire you to experiment with new styles!
