Its 6 am. I awake to the sound of kale, spinach, and frozen fruit screeching in the blender. As I toss and turn the noise finally stops, only to be replaced by the voice of a man on a podcast who is way too excited about the Leafs game from the night before. This is what it’s like living with your older brother in uni.

I arrive home from a grueling midterm, dreaming of walking into my comforting apartment and climbing straight into bed. I open the door to see every pot and pan I own strewn about the kitchen. The living room somehow has more clothes in it than do his drawers. This is what it’s like living with your older brother in uni.

I want to host a party at my apartment, but I don’t have to worry about my roommate having a midterm the next day, or being too loud when someone is trying to sleep. This is what it’s like living with your older brother in uni.

I’m really upset with my roommate, but I don’t have to worry about the repercussions of bringing up the issue and having to live with him after, or ruining the friendship because he’s family, and he’ll love me no matter what. That’s what it’s like living with your older brother in uni.
