When I think of Victoria’s Secret, I think of empowered women who are confident, sexy and beautiful. So who better than former Victoria’s Secret Karlie Kloss to fund a scholarship for girls ages 13-18 hoping to pursue a career in Software Engineering? From walking the runway, to attending NYU in the upcoming year, and now becoming a coding expert, Karlie truly is superwoman. The Kode with Karlie Scholarship is giving away free tuition to 20 lucky young women acrsoss America to attend the Flatiron School for coding lessons. By May 1st young girls are urged to apply by filling out a short application and submitting a short video explaining why they want to learn to code. Karlies classes will be held by the Flatiron School and range in date and location; any resident of the United States can apply. Karlie hopes to bring the creativity and inspiration she found in coding while attending classes at the Flatiron School to other young women. After the course students will have learned the building blocks for mastering code and will be able to create their own app which they can upload for others to view and use.
Karlie believes that coding will be increasingly useful for individuals in years to come and wants young women to start learning to code as early as possible. She believes that this will allow women to have a greater influence on our society and create a larger impact through creative and technological outlets. So if you know any bright and ambitious young women who fall within the age requirements of this competition, you should encourage them to record a short clip of themselves, explaining how they would benefit from coding classes with Karlie. We love this initiative and how a celebrity such as Karlie is helping bring women into a predominatly male dominated career path.
