This past Saturday, one of the biggest names in the Moombahton genre returned to Montreal for a crazy, loud, dance-filled performance. Dillon Francis, one of the sillier DJs in today’s industry, graced the Telus Theater’s stage to deliver a great night of dance. Until Saturday, I had never been to Telus. In all honesty, I cannot say I truly enjoyed the venue. I found it quite barren in terms of design and very boring. Needless to say, Dillon Francis and his crew of other power-packed DJs certainly gave the venue the charisma and character I was looking for. To start the show, local Montreal acts Dooze Jackers and Botnek began the show, representing the EDM roots of the city. Next, Nu-Disco duo Oliver generated and exciting atmosphere in anticipation for the main event.

Personally, I have to admit to being a bigger Oliver fan than Dillion Francis. Oliver perfectly meshes the 80s vibe of synthesizers and pop music with the funky riffs of Daft Punk. A recent comment about the duo (that I totally agree with) stated, “Oliver is Tron meets Drive.” Oliver spun a more electro set than their normal disco style, but it was still a great and energizing build up to the last act.
As soon as the platinum blonde DJ graced the stage, all chaos ensued. Accompanied by his signature IDGAFOS decoration and two, giant cat blow-ups, Dillon Francis immediately went into playing nothing but true Moombahton. Thi genre can easily be defined as slowed down house music complemented by a reggaeton flare. The music is fun, catchy, and great to dance too. Francis played a few of his signature songs such as “IDGAFOS” and his new remix of Justin Timberlake’s “Suit and Tie”. All had a great time and I can only imagine that fans are counting down the days until he comes back again for yet another “Wurld Turr.”
