Halloween Themed Cocktails – Warning: Not for the Faint-Hearted

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

Halloween is a special time of year that allows for numerous exceptions from every-day life. We accept candy from strangers, wear crazy costumes (or lack of), probably watch more scary movies than lectures, and drink more than we do on a regular weekend. Although Halloween is a fun holiday for all ages, we don’t necessarily celebrate it in the same style as we did ten years ago. But, like wine, we can’t disagree that its one of those things that gets better with age.

I can’t think of a better way to put you in the mood for Halloween festivities than with some themed-cocktails that will impress (and possibly scare) your guests. Here are a couple of recipes and tips straight from Her Campus McGill that will help you vamp-up your cocktail!

Eyeball-tinis
Use these to make it seem like your drink has an oozy eye floating around in it! Stuff a lychee with jam and blueberry, or stuff a concord grape (those super tiny ones) into a bigger black grape (carve out the inside first) or even just use a stuffed green olive. Warning—someone will be watching you all night!

Black Magic
Use black or red food colouring in ice cubes, so that when you add them into your glass, your drink will gradually turn a deep black or red. This works with syrup as well!

Spider Web Rim
Use black sanding sugar or (red/black food coloring) to colour the salt around the rim of your martini glass for a creepy effect.

Bloody Scary
Instead of just drinking your vodka (or gin/whiskey/tequila) with regular soda, mix red wine with blood-orange juice to make it seem like you’re enjoying your latest victim’s blood—all while entertaining your guests.

Potion Juice
Even though we all love a good potion, this one doesn’t include hair, fingernails, or three dead bats. Simply mix some pureed kiwis into your favourite alcohol to bewitch your guests.
