Staying in Montreal this reading week? Can’t afford a luxurious vacation in the Caribbean or a flight to Europe? There are tons of cool places within driving (or bus) distance from Montreal you can visit next week. Here are just five of them.

Quebec City, QC

The heart of the province of Quebec is the epitome of a French-Canadian twist. Learn about French history in the Old Town, which was built by French and British soldiers, and stay in the Chateau Frontenac, the most photographed hotel in North America. With amazing food choices, historical museums, and a Parliament building, this is the perfect place to practice your French for a few days.

Ottawa, ON

Visit Canada’s capital this Reading Week! Located just over two hours from Montreal, the Parliament Hill, the National War Memorial, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier await. Also, there are many art galleries, escape rooms, restaurants, and great nightlife locations to visit. There are also plenty of walking or bike tours just a Google search away if you’re into sightseeing.

Mont-Tremblant, QC

Love to embrace the cold? Go skiing at Mont-Tremblant’s famous ski resort. Tired of the cold? Relax in one of the resort’s numerous spas. Either way, the resort has a casino, ice fishing, laser tag, and even dog sledding. For adrenaline junkies, look into the helicopter tour!

Burlington, VT

If you have a passport with you, make your way down to the States for a few days during break. It’s less than two hours away and bus tickets are usually around $30, which is reasonable considering you have to pass immigration. Burlington is a cute, laid-back city with many college students (from University of Vermont and Champlain College) so you’ll definitely spend some quality time there.

North Conway, NH

That 15% tax is not cheap my friends. You know what the tax is in New Hampshire? There is none! Get all your shopping across the border during all that free time next week to save tons of cash. If you’re using your own car, make sure to fill the gas tank over there as well since prices are 20-25% cheaper than in Canada.
