Now that the weather has changed, and that fall is here, it is time to embrace cold weather fashion! Just because it’s cold and windy outside, it does not, and should not mean that you have to wear your leggings and oversized McGill sweatshirts, plus American Apparel hoodie uniform. I strongly believe that we should look good. You will automatically feel more confident, and plus, you never know you are going to see on campus.

Coco Chanel says it well: “I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little—if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.” [1]

So check out these three easy tips on how to look chic for class during cold weather.

1. Make a statement
Fabulous statement accessories can set your everyday outfit apart. During cold weather, scarves, hats, and even gloves, can become your signature accessories. I started my love affair with scarves when I came to Montreal (I was born in the Caribbean: the word “scarf” does not exist in the dictionary!) and I have not been able to give them up since. The best thing about scarves is that they come in plenty of shapes and colors! Hats are also a good alternative to keep you warm, and they add that little something to an outfit. They can also be very useful in covering up any bad hair days you may have.

2. Boots are made for walking, and you will look great
This is extremely important for us collegiettes™living in Montreal. They will keep your feet warm and they look great with any outfit. I usually match my boots with my belt or bag and sometimes, with my leather jacket (when it’s warmer outside). Take your time to find a pair that you love, and you will wear them with everything!

3. Pants are great, but they are not the only option
Dresses, skirts, and shorts are still an option, as long as you pair them with tights. Bored with black tights? Add some color, or chose a pair with a funky pattern to stay true to your style.
