Campus Cutie: Tavo Dam

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

This campus cutie has musical talents and more; read more about him!

Where are you from and what are you studying at McGill?

I’m from middle-of-nowhere (Deep River) Connecticut, but my background is half Venezuelan. I am a U1 with a major in Music (Vocal Performance) and double-minors in Management and Cultural Studies.

Are you involved in any extracurriculars at McGill?

I am currently the Co-President elect of Soulstice a Cappella. Last year, I was the Food Rep of Citadelle Residence. I volunteered as a frosh leader last fall, and like to volunteer with organizations such as McMUN when the opportunity arises. I also work as a marketing assistant with McGill Food and Dining Services.

What are your talents?

I can sing and cook, and I dabble in the ukulele.

What do you do in your spare time?

I read cookbooks, marathon TV shows, and daydream about New York City real estate.

Where do you spend time in Montreal?

I really like going up to Mile End. It has a really chill vibe and a great food scene, from the top-tier gourmet restaurants to the more cozy cafes.

What’s your dream job?

Who wouldn’t open a taco shack if their name was Tavo? But in all seriousness, if financial security was no question, I would open a high-end restaurant in New York.

What is your favourite music?

In terms of classical music, I really enjoy Schubert, but day-to-day, some of my favourite artists are James Vincent McMorrow, FUN, and my roommate, Kira Ilona.

What are your favourite foods and drinks?

I like a bizarre mix of really expensive and really cheap foods. Some of my favourites include oysters, fries, lobster, and chicken nuggets. Bread and butter is great, too. As for drinks, conservatively-speaking, I drink around 4 liters a day of carbonated water. (Shout-out to Sodastream!)

What is some advice you’d give a first-year student at McGill?

Leave the McGill bubble after first year, but beware of crazy neighbours.

Where do you see yourself in a year?

Studying for finals again, but hopefully a lot more prepared than I am today.
