Favourite TV show: 30 Rock (Tina Fey <3).
Favourite holiday movie: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Favourite food: Rice & Chicken with Peanut Stew.
Favourite music artist: I’m very indecisive when it comes to this question. My favourites right now are Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Toro Y Moi & JMSN (Can I slip Super Freddy in there too? #NoShame).
Favourite song: It changes a lot, but right now it’s “Jump Off the Roof” by Vince Staples & Snoh Aalegra.
Fanta Kamara for Her Campus McGill (HC McGill): On the topic of music, how did you get into music?
Freddy Detchou (FD): I was surrounded by music during my childhood. My dad always used to sing old French songs to my brothers and I before putting us to sleep and my mom would make us listen to the old ’70s and ’80s songs that they used to dance to. I also look up to my older brothers a lot, and they both make music (Stephane, the oldest, sings and plays guitar in a band called Aztec Sun, and Yannick, the middle one, produces and DJs), so being around them got me to start writing and eventually recording my own songs.
HC McGill: What’s your favourite song you’ve written and why?
FD: I actually wrote my favourite song a few weeks ago! It’s still untitled, but the working title is “Only You.” It’s a sad song, but in my eyes, it’s perfect: the beat is crazy, the lyrics have meaning to me, and I’m proud of my wordplay and delivery. To be honest, if I make a song that I can hold to the same standards that I hold songs made by my favorite artists, then I see it as a success.
HC McGill: How do you decide what to share in your music?
FD: I write about most things that happen in my life, whether they be good or bad, but I only record and share them if they’re not too personal. I try to be relatable with my music while still telling my own stories.
HC McGill: Last, question; it’s holiday related: What’s your favorite thing about the holiday season and why?
FD: My favorite thing about the holiday season is seeing my family for sure. We kind of live all over the place now, so when we get together it’s always a week or two of intense and continuous eating, dancing and joking. I’m really looking forward to it.
