Campus Cutie: Austin Northey

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

This week’s campus cutie is socially conscious, involved, and incredibly devoted to better serving his local Montreal community. Although he’s only in first year, he has already taken an active role in student life, serving as the VP External of Molson Hall Council, and using this position as leverage to help his fellow Molson students become better connected with social issues. Everyone meet Austin Northey!

In-Depth

Where would people be most likely to find you on a Friday night?

If not reading a dictionary or playing solitare, I might be found hanging out with friends, going to a local bar, playing NHL ’15, or just generally having a fun time with good people.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Making people smile :)

Biggest pet peeve?

When other people are really awkward, because normally, people compensate for how awkward I am.

What activities are you involved with in your first year at McGill?

Although I try to get myself out in as many capacities as possible in different branches of the McGill network, I’ve really tried to focus on my conciliar duties within Molson Hall Council. I’ve had the privilege of starting up a year-long social initiative called Project Molson with a fantastic team of people that I’m also lucky enough to call my friends. I am namely on Molson Hall Council, IRC, and SSUNS. I also enjoy playing intramurals, namely hockey and basketball.

What has your favourite initative been so far?

The month of November was dedicated to targeting wellness, specifically facilitating practises of charity for cancer research, heightening awareness to all facets of cancer impact, and creating a medium through which first year students could get involved in whatever capacity felt most comfortable. I’m rather partial, but I’d like to think the month was a success…or at least not too much of a failure. It was a lot of fun.

What’s a little-known interesting fact about yourself?

Absolute obsession with quotes.

Favourite place to study on campus?

During the day, it would have to be first floor McLennan. During exams when I’m staying up till 4 in the morning, probably Redpath.

If you could be any type of cereal, what would you be and why?

BMH oatmeal, because I’m overpriced, no one likes me, and I’m everyone’s last resort.
