With the summer months right around the corner, getting to the gym is crucial.  Whether your goal is to be healthy or sculpt a bikini body, it’s time to take off that cozy winter layer.  I find that music has a huge effect on my workouts, in terms of duration and especially, effort.  One song can be the difference between a thirty second plank and an exhausting, three minute drop-to-the-floor plank.

If you’re a top 40 girl like I am, you probably have Beyoncé on replay while on the elliptical, or you’re relying on Maroon 5 to get you through the last minute on the treadmill.  That being said, I recently discovered that it’s anything but top 40 that gets me through my workout.  I’ve compiled a list of badass songs for my fellow collegiettes™who want to build muscle and get fit.  Lose the make-up and perfectly done hair, and break a sweat like you’re supposed to.

Make sure you comment below, and tell us what songs make you feel badass!

If you’re on the elliptical, try:

Make it Bun Dem – Skrillex & Damian Marley

Crazy Train – Ozzy Osbourne

The Bounce – Jay-Z

Walk This Way – Aerosmith ft. Run DMC

The Stimulus Mix Part I – South Rakkas Crew

When weight-lifting (5 pound dumbbells count too!), play:

The Beautiful People – Marilyn Manson

Definition – Black Starr (Mos Def & Talib Kweli)

Dope Boys – The Game ft. Travis Barker

Gorgeous – Kanye West ft. Kid Cudi & Raekwon

Aerodynamic (Specimen A & James D’ley Re-fix) –  Daft Punk

This will bring you from a jog to a run on the treadmill:

Universal Mind Control – Common ft. Pharrell

Dropping the Bomb – K’naan

As We Enter – Nas & Damian Marley

List of Demands – Saul Williams

Death (Chase & Status Remix) – White Lies
