The Grammy Awards, which took place on February 10, had a lot of backlash from major artists this year. With performers such as Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez taking the stage on the 61st annual event, many artists had refused to be in their position.

Performing at any major award show is seen to be one of the highest honours for artists aspiring to be huge in the industry. However, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, and Childish Gambino all denied an invitation to perform at the show, with Ariana Grande boycotting the whole event all together.

One of the reasons for this is the ongoing anger that the Grammy Awards and the hip hop world have with each other. There has been, and continues to be, a struggle for the two worlds to meet.

The Grammys are notorious for their misrepresentation and their underrepresentation, and their unfair and totally bizarre outcomes. This is seen during events over the years where there is a lack of women winning awards, and artists such as Kendrick and JAY-Z losing unfairly.

For Ariana Grande, the reason behind her refusal to perform comes with the fact that producers of the award show were controlling the music that she could perform, making her performance less authentic. However, Grande found herself in a spat with the producer Ken Ehrlich when he claimed that she couldn’t “pull something together” for the performance.

Maybe in the future the Grammys can pull the situation together since without artists or performers on its side, it can never continue to be successful.
