4 Runway Inspired Halloween Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

‘Tis that time of the year; beautiful fall skies, falling leaves, exciting new fall fashion, falling motivation, falling grades… We all know this struggle too well. We are so busy with midterms that we miss the opportunity to properly enjoy autumn! For the month of October, many of us simply don’t have the time to invest in fall shopping, experiment with new fall styles, coordinate our outfits according to the fashion weeks, or even just look half as decent as we usually do. This is the reason why many of us are sooo keen for that one day where we have the excuse to be whatever we want to be… HALLOWEEN!

Halloween is basically the one day that we all look forward to, that helps us get through the dreadful midterm season. To quote the official girl code guide Mean Girls, “Halloween is the one night a year where a girl can dress like a total sl*t and no other girls can say anything about it.Many of us should then take this day as an opportunity to look as fabulous and fashionable as we can, and the fashion weeks that just came to a wrap are the perfect source of inspiration. Haven’t had the chance to review all the shows? Do not worry, because Her Campus McGill has prepared you a list of four different costume ideas to keep you inspired and fashionable.

1. Chanel Airlines (Chanel Spring/Summer 2016)

There is no way that you can doubt the genius of Karl Lagerfeld after seeing this new “Chanel Airlines” Spring/Summer 2016 show. Especially when you’ve seen his fun and poppy Chanel Cruise 2016 runway, his luxurious restaurant themed Fall/Winter 2016 runway, and his grocery-store themed Fall/Winter 2015 runway.

Surely, the creative force behind these inspiring and magical shows simply cannot go unappreciated by us collegiettes this Halloween. As you can see in the picture above, Karl chose clean and crisp silhouettes overall, with bold striped patterns. Of course, these runway looks are as gorgeous as ever, but in order to find a more Halloween-appropriate costume idea, take a look at the Chanel Airlines flight attendants at the help desk in the picture down below.

Want to fly Chanel? Then channel this look by adding a red, white, and blue scarf with bold stripes to a classic flight attendant-esque skirt and blazer combo. Sport a clean low bun for classiness, but add a little bit of red lipstick to add a sexy feel to it. Take Lily Rose Depp for example, as shown in the picture below. She looks absolutely stunning in her red choker-like scarf and a clean red, white and blue, boldly patterned top that matches the whole theme of the Chanel set.

2. Pretty Punk Nicolas Ghesquière, the new creative mastermind behind Louis Vuitton, wowed the world again with another powerful punch delivered through his show this spring/summer 2016 season. A parade of punky girls marched down the runway with a full on bad-ass attitude that made us think of our favourite heroines that are bad in the best way possible.

To rock a Louis Vuitton inspired punk look for this Halloween, take out your go-to liquid eyeliner and apply it to draw a bold, fearless line that extends to either the inner corners of your eyes, or beyond the ends of your eyes. Add a small piece of fake lashes on your under lashes to make sure that you get the full Louis Vuitton beauty look. Then simply put on your favourite leather jacket as well as a leather skirt, matched with bold platform sandals with straps, or fierce, pointy booties with chunky buckles.

3. Chic CowgirlFringe, denim, suede, and the colours orange, brown and yellow were often seen this fashion week season. When these items are worn, they give off a sense of daring yet cool and chic attitude. Balmain rocked this trend this season, with the full #BalmainArmy rocking romantic, yet sexy looks such as the ones you see in the pictures below.

If you want to be a part of the #BalmainArmy, we suggest you slip into a nude- or warm-toned suede dress decorated with some straps or whip-stitching. This is an opportunity to rock your gladiator sandals or strappy heels with this outfit, as Olivier Rousteing did for his runway show.

4. Hilfiger’s Hippie GirlIf you are looking for something more laid-back, then this is your costume: Hilfiger-inspired hippie look!

In the past, Hilfiger has managed to bring a whole football field and a Californian beach scene to his show, but this time he stunned us with a Caribbean beach full of laid-back, hippie vibes. He managed to put together vibrant rainbow colours, crochet, and different flowy fabrics and blend it all together Hilfiger style – clean, and sporty. You can easily become one of Hilfiger’s hippie girls this Halloween by wearing a bright coloured crochet or knit bikini/crop top, with a flowy pair of pants, or a maxi skirt to balance out your silhouette.
