36 Questions: How To Fall In Love With Anyone

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

An extremely popular ‘Modern Love’ column of The New York Times titled ‘To Fall in Love With Anyone, Do This’ brought a piece of psychology research into contemporary culture’s forefront. In this day and age, we’re all looking for love or running away from it, hardly able to ignore it, however. Research claims that any two strangers can form an intimate bond if they go through these 36 questions together. Psychologist Arthur Aron used 36 questions to create interpersonal closeness between two strangers in a lab and two participants went on to get married six months later.

Today, I want to tell you about my new favourite podcast: 36 Questions.

A fusion of two pop culture mediums together: a musical and a podcast. If you were unable to see Hamilton live, don’t stress because now you can experience a spectacular musical podcast, a first of it’s kind. Forget the theatrics, the set and the costumes, just an experience you can hear. Brought to you by Two-Up productions, ‘36 Questions’ is an auditory delight. Ignite your senses with well-crafted dialogues, original compositions and true love. Written and composed by Chris Littler and Ellen Winter, 36 Questions is original and charming.

Three acts take you on the journey of a couple, played by Jonathan Groff and Jessie Shelton, who are in the midst of saving their marriage. In hopes of rekindling their love, they use the 36 questions, the reason they fell in love in the first place. There’s a twist to the story, but you need to listen to the podcast for that! It has a unique quality to it, which makes you feel like you’re in the room with the couple. The experience feels genuine and makes the podcast come to life. Plus, you won’t be able to help but be addicted to the soundtrack!

Who knows, maybe it’ll make you want to try the 36 questions yourself.
